Learning Analytics: Leveraging Education Data [Infographic]


Learning analytics (LA) is one of the growing important areas of educational research. The recent Horizon Report 2012 identified LA as one of six emerging technologies that is likely to have considerable impact on teaching, learning, and creative expression within higher education over next 2 to 3 years. According to the 2012 Horizon Report, learning analytics refers to “the interpretation of a wide range of data produced by and gathered on behalf of students in order to assess academic progress, predict future performance, and spot potential issues.” Learning analytics involves the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of data about learners and their contexts, for purposes of understanding and optimizing learning and the environments in which it occurs2.  Learning analytics is largely concerned with improving learner success. To help readers better understand learning analytics, OpenColleges created an excellent infographic in which it provides an overview of learning analytics and explains what it can do, what can it be used for, and how it works.

    2012年的Horizon報告,學習分析指的是“學生代表,以評估學術進步所產生的和收集的數據範圍廣泛的解釋,預測未來的表現,發現潛在的問題。”
    最近的2012 Horizon報告中確定的LA為一體的六大新興技術可能是未來2至3年有相當大的影響:
    1.平板電腦應用(Tablet Computing)
    輕便靈活,平板電腦還集筆記型電腦、智慧手機、無線攜帶其他移動設備所有功能為一體,裡面成千上萬的移動應用程式賦予使用者個性化的上網經歷,廣受消費者喜愛。
    2.移動設備(Mobiles):智慧手機、ipad以及一對一電腦等移動設備正被越來越多的人所熟知與使用。
    3.基於遊戲的學習(Game-based Learning):包括以目標為導向的遊戲、情景類遊戲、提高團隊合作能力的遊戲以及一些簡單易操作的遊戲,遊戲開始在教育領域廣闊應用和發展。
    4.學習分析(Learning Analytics):學習分析提供了一個方向,如果有效使用,並和當代學習實踐的理論相結合,學習分析在提高教學、學習以及評價方面擁有巨大的潛力。
    5.基於手勢的計算(Gesture-based Computing):離開鍵盤、不用滑鼠,通過手勢的互動來操控電腦,這種開放、直接的運用方式給人們提供了前所未有的互動體驗。基於手勢輸入的計算技術也正快速不斷發展。
    6. 物聯網(Internet of Things):物聯網將與媒體互聯網、服務互聯網和企業互聯網一道,構成未來互聯網。
